Rob started his martial arts career in Judo at the age of 7 and trained irregularly for 10 years without taking a grading. At the age of 17 he trained at the Metropolitan Police Judo club and also joined the Metropolitan Police wrestling team. He attended self- defence/control & restraint courses with the same organization.
Rob then joined the Royal Marines and was a member of his unit’s boxing squad. He developed an interest in Aikido and in 1999 started training under Sensei Brian Stockwell (7th Dan)
Between 2008 and 2010 Rob studied intensively at Goryukan Stafford under Savery sensei which culminated in the award of a Shodan and a level 6 (Dai Roku) instructor certificate. It was at Stafford that he met Henry who was training for his Nidan. At times they spent over 25 hours per week training together.
Rob trained with Harrison Sensei (6th Dan) of Sendokan in 2011. He was awarded Nidan (2nd Dan) and a level 5 (Dai Go) instructor certificate by Amos Parker Shihan (9th Dan) in October 2011.
